In our day to day busy lives, we often forget that our body needs some care to have a healthy and happy life. So it is necessary to include self-care habits in our daily routine. Initially, a bit of effort is required to push yourself however after a few days you are going to love it.
It is necessary to think about ourself and our daily routines. We all want to perform well at work or school without our wellbeing we cannot accomplish our duty to the full extent.
We sometimes get so involved in taking care of our loved ones we tend to forget ourself so it is always important to remember that you are your main priority.
So do not neglect your physical and mental wellbeing and start a self-care routine with these simple steps.
5 Simple steps to start a self-care routine
- Know what is self-care and what isn't
- Understand why it is important for you
- Creating a self-care routine
- Making it a habit
- Have a self-care routine checklist
Know what is self-care and what isn't
Self-care is any activity that we do to take care of our mind, body and soul.
It is all about doing what we enjoy like for me I like to do read an interesting book but for others, it may be like going on a walk, cooking, journaling etc there are endless activities to do.
Doing everything we can to ensure we are caring for our mind, body and soul.
Self-care isn't selfish or a waste of time. we won't be able to help others when we don't treat ourself with kindness.
Understand why it is important
Self-care improves our immunity, increases positive thinking and makes us less susceptible to stress, depression, anxiety and other emotional health issues.
Taking time out to care for ourselves helps remind us that we are important.
We can be more productive and complete our work in less time with a more energetic mind and body.
Self-care practice increases our self-esteem, makes us feel confident and be a better caretaker.
Creating a self-care routine
What your ideal self-care routine looks like it depends on you. You can be a face mask, bubble bath person or reading a book, watching the sunrise, cooking person doing anything which you love counts as a self-care activity.
So try to find activities for your mind, body and soul like
colouring
Taking long baths
Doing Meditation, exercise or yoga
creating a new smoothie recipe
Waking up early to watch the sunrise
photographing sunset

Plan everything at what time do you want to wake up? how much time do you want to work or study? How will you spend the last few minutes before bed?
what is your skincare routine? At what time you want to meditate or do yoga. Plan everything the way you want your ideal routine should look like. Take it slow and make progress every day.
Remember that your self-care routine doesn't have to be complicated because you don't want to make your self-care routine another cause for your stress. Focus on what's compatible with your lifestyle.
Making it a habit
You have to always remember that if you neglect your physical and emotional wellbeing it will be very hard for you to succeed in your life.
At first, a bit of hard work is required to follow your new routine but through consistency and regular practice, it becomes a habit.
Set boundaries on how much time you spend with yourself or others for protecting your time and energy. When you’re clear with your boundaries and make every effort to stick to them, you permit yourself to focus on your own needs.
Be Self-discipline that means you should not fall for your temptations like in the morning after you wake up you pick up your phone and scroll down your Instagram for 30min or even more you have to stop doing that instead start with your morning routine.
Start by setting up goals like waking up daily at 6 am, exercising for 30min and with self-discipline accomplish these goals daily.
Have a self-care routine checklist
Have a habit tracker either printed, handwritten or a digital one. I practice this in my bullet journal because it makes me very happy and satisfied when I tick a square box after completing a task.
At the start of each month or week create a table and write all the habits like going to the gym, reading 5 pages of a book before bed, eating 3 types of fruits a day etc in the column section and all the days in rows. This way, you can check whether you have done everything as expected.
After every week or month check if there are any gaps and see that you don't have those in the next week or month.
Don't be hard on yourself if there are few gaps in your tracker, sometimes even I stay late nights watching a movie and that's ok (but only sometimes).
You can print the below photo and use it.
Conclusion
You can be more productive when you have a healthy mind, body and soul and you can't take care of others unless until you start taking care of yourself. So start having a good self-care routine and keep following it with consistency and discipline.
